چکیده

Egypt has several beaches, as well the Nile River and a few lakes; therefore, it could compensate for lack of protein in red meat with fish. Fish, however, may become source heavy metal exposure humans. The current study was to assess level five toxic metals, lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), arsenic (As), aluminum (Al), six species, namely, Oreochromis niloticus ( O. ) , Mugil cephalus M. Lates L. ), Plectropomus leopardus P. Epinephelus tauvina E. Lethrinus nebulosus collected from El-Obour fish market Egypt. residual concentrations tested metals examined niloticus, cephalus, tauvina, species were found be higher than European Commission's maximum permissible limits (MPL) Pb Cd by 10 20%, 15 65%, 75 15%, 20 40%, 25 5%. In contrast, 30% exceeded MPL Hg. It shown that average estimated daily intake (EDI) target hazard quotient (THQ) samples are below safety levels human consumption index (HI < 1). From health point view, this showed there no possible risk people due any studied under rate country.

The Prevalence of Campylobacter, Listeria and Salmonella Species in Freshwater and Salt-Water Fish

A total of 154 samples of marine (n=51) and freshwater fish (n=103) were obtained from fish markets in Elazig Province of eastern Turkey. These samples were tested for Campylobacter, Listeria and Salmonella using culturing and biochemical methods. Campylobacter failed to be detected in any freshwater or marine fish samples. Listeria was detected in 22 and 14 of gill and skin samples from freshw...

Molecular approaches for monitoring potentially toxic marine and freshwater phytoplankton species.

Harmful phytoplankton species are a growing problem in freshwater and marine ecosystems, because of their ability to synthesize toxins that threaten both animal and human health. The monitoring of these microorganisms has so far been based on conventional methods, mainly involving the microscopic counting and identification of cells, and using analytical and bioanalytical methods to identify an...

Characterization and comparison of fatty acyl Delta6 desaturase cDNAs from freshwater and marine teleost fish species.

Fish are the most important dietary source of the n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA), eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), that have particularly important roles in human nutrition reflecting their roles in critical physiological processes. The objective of the study described here was to clone, functionally characterize and compare expressed fatty acid desaturase genes...

Risk assessment for human consumption of perfluorinated compound-contaminated freshwater and marine fish from Hong Kong and Xiamen.

Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are man-made fluoro-surfactants that are identified as global pollutants and can pose health risks to humans and wildlife. Two aspects of risk assessment were conducted in this study, including exposure and response. Exposure was estimated by using the concentrations of PFCs in fish and applying standard exposure factors. Among different PFCs, PFOS, PFOA, PFNA, P...

Metazoan parasite species richness and genetic variation among freshwater fish species: cause or consequence?

The factors responsible for the maintenance of genetic variation among natural populations remain a mystery. Recent models of host-parasite co-evolution assume that parasites exert frequency-dependent selection on their hosts by favouring rare alleles that may confer resistance against infection. We tested this prediction in a comparative analysis that sought relationships between levels of gen...
